While working as Program Director at locally owned, independent alternative WWCD in Columbus, Ohio for 7 years, Lesley James found her passion in breaking new artists and telling their stories. This passion and drive to find new talent led her to be one of the first programmers in the U.S. to give Tame Impala, Glass Animals, Fitz and the Tantrums, alt-J, Wolf Alice, Walk the Moon, and Chvrches commercial radio airplay.
In 2018, after 12 years on-air, Lesley stepped away from the mic and moved across the country to Los Angeles to take on a new challenge as head of U.S. Radio and Streaming Promotion for UK’s East City Management, home to alt-J, Wolf Alice, Kodaline amongst others. While there she worked with records labels, streaming platforms, and radio stations to help enhance the company’s artists profiles.
Since the fall of 2020, Lesley serves as co-director of Radio and Streaming for boutique label Hazel Street Records (a Sony Music Entertainment JV), and loves being a part of a team that is building a label from the ground up.
In recent “Covid” years, Lesley has been itching to dust off the headphones and turn the mic back on. Lesley is excited to join the independent 88.5fm’s airstaff, hosting mid-days (12p-4p PT) on Saturdays. Some of her favorite artists are Oasis, Depeche Mode, New Order, Wolf Alice, Foals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Warpaint, Arlo Parks, and Wet Leg.
Lesley lives in the heart of Hollywood with her two dogs. She is an identical twin, an avid vinyl collector, hiker, indoor cyclist enthusiast, and a volunteer at dog rescue organization A Purposeful Rescue.
