Top Ten Songs of the Week (3/18/2022)

 

1. Cult-favorite musician Mitski has just released her newest album 'Laurel Hell.' While Mitski was launched into the mainstream over the past couple of years, her latest songs show no end to her grassroots talent. Following "Working for the Knife," "The Only Heartbreaker" was the second single released supporting her new album.

 

2. "Living My Best Life" is track three off Ben Rector's new album, 'The Joy of Music.' The record was released on March 11th and is being followed with Rector’s tour starting in May. This is the Tennessee based singer-songwriter’s ninth album!

 

3. Broken Horses” is the fourth song on Brandi Carlile’s 2021 album ‘In These Silent Days.’ She has seven studio albums under her belt so far. In the past year alone, Brandi not only released a celebrated album, but she has gone on to perform as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and released a memoir! You can see Brandi Carlile at the Greek Theatre on June 24th and 25th with special guests Lucius and Celisse.

 

4. Sasami is a Los Angeles-based artist with a brand new record! ‘Squeeze,’ her sophomore album, was released last month on the label Domino. “The Greatest” came out as a single last year along with an official music video. Before her solo career, Sasami was a part of the band Cherry Glazerr from 2015 until 2018. The artist will be on tour this year, stopping by the Teragram Ballroom on April 13th!

 

5. World-renowned artist Adele released the song "Oh My God" as a single from her fourth studio album 30 last year. The song peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October. "Oh My God" was given a beautiful music video this January. Late last year, Adele put on a secret intimate performance called "Adele One Night Only" that you can now watch on Paramount+.

 

6. Japanese Breakfast is the otherworldly-sounding project led by musician and author Michelle Zauner. "Slide Tackle" is off the latest album 'Jubilee,' which dropped last year. 'Jubilee' is Japanese Breakfast's third album, following the 2017 record 'Soft Sounds from Another Planet.' The band is currently at SXSW and will be coming to Southern California this April for Coachella!

 

7. This next act is our current Artist in Residence for the month of March! Tune in on Saturdays from 6 pm - 7 pm to hear Lucius host their own show on the air! "Next To Normal" is the leading single from the group's upcoming fourth studio album, 'Second Nature.' The album will drop on April 8th!

 

8. Sharon Van Etten is a singer-songwriter who started her career with the album ‘Because I Was in Love’ in 2009. Since then, the artist has released four more studio albums. The latest work by Sharon are the singles “Used To It” and “Porta”; you can listen to the latter this week on 88.5 FM! This July, Van Etten is coming to Los Angeles with fellow musicians Angel Olsen, Julien Baker, and Spencer. You can see them at the Greek Theatre on July 28th and 29th.

 

9. Stand For Myself” is the title track off Yola’s 2021 album ‘Stand For Myself.’ This record follows Yola’s critically acclaimed debut entitled ‘Walk Through Fire.’ The English singer-songwriter will be performing in California this year for Coachella and Stagecoach! Not only is Yola a talented musician, but she is also expected to appear in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic as Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

 

10. British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks has followed up her 2021 debut studio album 'Collapsed in Sunbeams' with her single, "Softly." Arlo started her music career with her single "Cola" in 2018, followed by the EP 'Super Sad Generation' in 2019. The artist won the Breakthrough Artists Award at last year's Brit Awards. Parks is a fan favorite, joining Harry Styles on June 22nd for a show in Dublin.
