Music Director Picks #15: Jade Bird, John Paul White, Radical Face

885 music director picks FB28

88.5 FM receives so much music on a daily basis... CDs, downloads, reissues, box sets, cassette tapes, vinyl records and more. Songs are generally chosen by committee at the station, but it's the job of the music director to go through the stacks and stacks with a fine tooth comb. This blog may include major label releases, independent artists, even random submissions for your listening pleasure.

Music Director Picks #15

JADE BIRD - I GET NO JOY

We first noticed Jade Bird with her single "Cathedral" which is a beautifully written, slower-tempo type of song. After that, we got the two incredibly rocking and infectious tunes "Lottery" and "Uh Huh". Here's another Jade Bird ripper. Wise beyond her years, this artist has taken the music community by storm. We've been playing Jade's music for many months... it's crazy to think that her debut album isn't out until 4/19 on Glassnote Records (Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, The Strumbellas).

JOHN PAUL WHITE - THE LONG WAY HOME

John Paul White is a special kind of musician. He has a way of tugging at your inner heartstrings. We'll never forget the last time he came to 88.5 FM to perform. It was a magical moment. His first musical project propelled him into the mainstream with the success of The Civil Wars duo. Now based out of Muscle Shoals, he's coming out with some of the best music of his career, with his very own label called Single Lock Records. Is it possible to recreate the profoundness of his last LP Beulah? For a musician like JPW... you bet. The album The Hurting Kind will be available on 4/12.

RADICAL FACE - HARD OF HEARING

This song gives us all the feels... and the video is just perfect. This Los Angeles based project of musician Ben Cooper, will release the Therapy EP on 4/26. Cooper says, ”'Hard of Hearing' is about the awkward middle period, that space where you don't feel well at all, but you can outwardly function again. I learned from regular work with a therapist that you usually understand things long before you feel them, and that can create a sense of limbo. That limbo is where this song lives."
