But with a twist, because he will be playing classic Police songs like “Roxanne,” “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” and “Message in a Bottle,” but Copeland says, “One difference though because I am a member of the Police. I have been able to take liberties with the Police material that no hired arranger would dare do...These are Police songs like you’ve never heard.”

Rayford also gives us some perspective about what it was like growing up singing and performing gospels in church and tells us his views about artists that grew up in similar environments. For this episode of 88.5 FM's Hear at Home interview series, join our new Midday host Julie Slater in conversation with Ben Bridwell from the Grammy-nominated outfit Band of Horses!
Bridwell tells us that their new album, Things Are Great, was written, done, and mixed before the pandemic hit. He says that the album went through a wholly different iteration as well. The band added new songs, created new mixes, and yet they were left "holding the bag," says Bridwell.
"The hens came home to roost in a way," says Bridwell about the themes encountered in the new album. It surprises him that the topics he wrote about aligned with the current state of the world. He also tells us the process behind his songwriting and the stories he wanted to bring forth. In Julie's words, although the album deals with heavy topics, it felt light to her, making Bridwell happy that it came across that way.

Slater reveals to LaMontagne that she was inspired to name her dog after him and explains the similar traits her dog, Rayla, shares with Ray LaMontagne. All jokes aside, we also find out what sort of music LaMontagne gravitates toward when he's feeling down and searching for something uplifting or when he's looking for inspiration.
"A lot of my early years making music was really all about a primal scream… I have a very difficult time relating to that guy," LaMontagne says about his early work, "I'm so far removed from my younger self. It's hard for me to relate to those songs."

Masa dives into a few of her favorite things about Portland and the differences she senses between Los Angeles and Portland creatively. She explains how the relationship with her mother has affected her songwriting for her latest album 'Heart In The Wild: Side A.'
"A big majority of this record is about my mom…and losing my mom on so many different levels; losing her, mentally and in my life where it's no longer safe for me to be in communication with her, for physical and emotional safety" Masa details her mother's connection in the record, "this is my letter to her in a lot of ways. Creating this record was a lot of my own processing."
