Music Director Picks #8: Ace Of Cups, The Nude Party, The Molochs

885 music director picks FB13

88.5 FM receives so much music on a daily basis... CDs, downloads, reissues, box sets, cassette tapes, vinyl records and more. Songs are generally chosen by committee at the station, but it's the job of the music director to go through the stacks and stacks with a fine tooth comb. This blog may include major label releases, independent artists, even random submissions for your listening pleasure.

Music Director Picks #8

ACE OF CUPS - FEEL GOOD

Believe it or not, this is from the debut studio album by San Francisco's pioneering, all-female rock band. In their day in the 1960's they shared the stage with Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead. This band was never in it for stardom, they simply focused on the music and their art as the counterculture of 1960's San Francisco swirled around them. This is our feel good record of the season... an album that took decades before it came to fruition.

THE NUDE PARTY - FEELS ALRIGHT

Being compared to legends Lou Reed or The Rolling Stones isn't a band thing. Upon first listen, The Nude Party had us hooked with this brand new song. In 2018 The Nude Party opened for Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Ron Gallo, Sunflower Bean, Caroline Rose, Twin Peaks & The Black Lips and 2019 starts off with Dr Dog dates. Take a listen... tap your feet and tell your friends about this new band you discovered. Perhaps you've already heard them on World Cafe on 88.5 FM.

THE MOLOCHS - TOO LOST IN LOVE

We're suckers for a throwback sound... neo soul, the post punk revival, bands paying homage to the Laurel Canyon sound. The Molochs are a Southern California project, that at times, sounds like a 1960's Los Angeles garage band. Coming to us by way of local label Innovative Leisure (Nick Waterhouse, Hanni El Khatib, Pinky Pinky) the indie sound of The Molochs is a favorite of music lovers of all ages, everywhere.
